Since the Hollywood was first placed in jeopardy, there have been two petitions – and both were instrumental in showing support for the Hollywood.
The message and the goal have evolved, and we've now launched a new and timely petition to let Mayor Gregor Robertson and council know that Vancouver supports the City’s acquisition of the Hollywood and its subsequent operation by a community-based nonprofit. This is the one best way to ensure that a reinvented, revitalized Hollywood Theatre is a part of Vancouver’s neighbourhood and cultural landscape for years to come!
(For more details, see our recently published business plan, Reinventing the Hollywood.)
Did you know the City owns and leases more than 27 cultural facilities for $1/year rent and tax-free occupancy? The result is a network of thriving cultural facilities that help make this a vital and creative city. The Hollywood is a clear choice for the same treatment, but so far the City has stood back. Let them know that this is the wrong decision!
Please sign the new petition and share it with your friends (links to do so accompany the petition). It WILL make a difference, as public pressure is one of the best tools we have to convince the City to act - especially with an election on the way.
Can you join us at the Folk Festival this weekend, or any time over the coming weeks, to gather signatures in person? If so, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org, or using our online contact form. Initial response to the petition has been tremendous, and we need as much help as possible to reach everyone who supports the Hollywood!
Thanks again for your continuing support!
