Jeni’s Picks for the week ahead

Dear Picks People…I have not quite finished my listings but I am sending this out as there are wonderful events tonight and tomorrow I don’t want any interested parties to miss!  Please visit my website during the week as I will continually be updating it.

Also, the usual reminder to please check with venues before venturing forth for changes/cancellations to listed events…. and for any mistakes I may have made.

I have no wise words to impart (they have all been said so very well by many others) regarding shocking recent world events. I can only say that I find attending music and other arts events provides me with a space to clear my head, heal my heart, and lift my spirits. I share my picks in the hopes that you will also find something on the list that does the same for you.

Areas that were once woodlands now contain industry or homes. Industry moves out and nature reclaims the land, and many of these types of environments contain remnants of each stage in the evolution of the city and its surroundings. In sharing this music, Khari is brought face to face with his own “unrecorded” heritage, and the realities and myths of one of our quintessential historic narratives: the Underground Railroad. FREEDOM SINGER is a new documentary-style theatre piece that blends McClelland’s original music with 1850s freedom songs, verbatim interview excerpts, and first-hand stories.McClelland is joined on stage by acclaimed Vancouver guitarist Noah Walker and Juno Award-nominated soul singer Tanika Charles resurrecting these songs for contemporary audiences. ** Also on several other days…. see ticket info for dates/times**
