2019 Italian Film Festival January 4-11, 2019

The Vancouver Italian Film Festival kicks off their sixth year with the North American premiere of The Man Who Bought the Moon. This week-long festival presents a mixture of the best new Italian cinema, documentary, and established classics, including work by masters like Fellini, De Sica, and Bertolucci. Also features V6A by Italian filmmaker Ruggero Romano who came to Vancouver in 2016 and was moved to make a film about the inhabitants of postal code V6A, the people of Hastings Street and the DTES. Frankie’s Jazz Club – Miles Black Plays the Music of David Rehorick

David Rehorick started studying jazz piano around age thirty. During the 1970s & 80s, he performed with The Ungroupables, and later Jazz Configuration in Fredericton, New Brunswick.  In 2016, David discovered a folder of compositional drafts that he began developing, in dialogue with Miles Black. In quick succession, Remembering Ian, Pedal Off, and Soft Green were charted. Other tunes emerged through open-ended piano explorations, usually late at night: Da-De-Do Blues, Step Up, Hoo You, Neville-san, and Route Canal. Cozy Sizzle marks David’s first lyrical conception. The Miles Black Quartet recorded the eleven original tunes in July 2018, featuring Steve Maddock on Cozy Sizzle. Miles Black piano/guitar, Jodi Proznick bass, Steve Kaldestad alto/tenor sax, Julian MacDonough drums, and special guest Steve Maddock vocals.  Cover $16
