City Opera News
5 November 2007

First, our thanks to the people who filled St Andrew’s-Wesley United Church last Friday. You were wonderful, prepared, joyous and a delight to work with. Our music director fully expected at least a few “train wrecks” along the way. None occurred. Not one. We were – all of us – thrilled that it went so very well.

Second, all thanks to our sponsors (Tom Lee Music, The WestEnder, and Accent Inns) for their investment in this success, and to our hosts at St Andrew’s for giving us such a magnificent home in which to perform Canada’s first Sing-Along Carmina Burana.

Third, we have been asked by many people to do it again. Please give us your feedback. Would you attend a second Carmina Burana sing-along? If so, when? October 2008? Not before 2009? Would you suggest any changes to the event that would make it even more successful? We'd be interested in your ideas. Please e-mail us at marketing@PROTECTED.

We have now posted at http://www.cityoperavancouver.com a set of still and video images from the concert. Please feel free to visit, and enjoy the concert all over again.

Now, to the future.

Sunday 6 January 2008 marks the 100th Anniversary of the opening of the Pantages Theatre at 150 East Hastings Street. City Opera supporters will be invited to a special event, and wonderful entertainment, to celebrate the past and future of this 650-seat dazzler.

Come mid-January we will be making an exciting announcement about City Opera’s repertoire.

Soon thereafter, we will be announcing City Opera’s first recording contract.

Finally, if you have not yet had a chance to participate in our Accent Inns draw, please feel free to do so now. By making a donation to ‘Community Arts Council of Vancouver’, with the memo line ‘In Trust City Opera’, and sending it to us at PO Box 88393, Vancouver V6A 4A6, you will be entered and have a chance to win two nights for two at any Accent Inn in British Columbia.

Thanks once more for becoming part of Canada’s newest opera company. We look forward to seeing – and hearing – you soon.
