Hi there!

I'm writing to ask if you or anyone you know might be interested in participating in an entertaining cabaret evening being planned by Vancouver Rape Relief and Women's Shelter to honour their 30th year

It will take place from 6 to 10 pm on Saturday, March 8, at the Hycroft Manor, home of the UBC Women's Club - an elegant house built in 1911 Taking their cue from this great setting, the theme of the evening is intended to center around feminism in the early part of the 20th century

But lest that give the impression of a stuffy affair, think again! VRR wants this to be a fun and memorable evening of music and performance, whether via music, song, spoken word, performance, or, well anything!

One aspect of the evening they are interested in is to pay tribute to the artist Josephine Baker, whose strong stand on equal rights is not widely recognized in the popular conception of her career

Finally, we would love to have a pianist to tickle the ivories of the Hycroft's grand piano for some or all of the event Hopefully this would be in conjunction with one or more performers as well as providing an authentic "turn of the century parlour" atmosphere for the evening

This is an opportunity for anyone who would like to explore some creative performance possibilities and help honour a great and progressive organization I think the shape of the evening will evolve as things go along, but with one month to go there should hopefully be time enough for some creative juices to flow for those who wish to be a part of the event

If this sounds intriguing and you think you might have something to contribute, please email me and we can talk further

Many thanks! Adam
