FlierEach summer, Vancouver's West End
is transformed by two remarkable events.

Big HairFor four nights in late July and early August, thousands flock to the beaches of English Bay to view the international musical fireworks competition entitled Symphony of Fire. Right on its heels comes the Gay and Lesbian Pride Parade, culmination of a weekend of gay pride events.

Since I live right at the epicenter of the action, taking in these events is as easy as strolling out my front door - and I always look forward to them. They're cornerstones of my Vancouver summer. This year, I decided to try and document both of them as creatively and faithfully as possible. The result: two photo essays which I present here.
